Celebrations are important: they hold significant cultural meaning for patients and staff, and the loneliness of not being able to celebrate with family outside of hospital is an unfortunate side effect of hospitalization.

The Friends of Valkenberg brings joy by supplying treats to over 1,000 patients and staff members on special days throughout the year. When Christmas rolls around we sponsor a ward-decorating contest, provide a gift for every patient, fund a party for each ward, and facilitate outings and braais for wards where patients are there for a longer time.

Though the year groups come to Valkenberg to entertain patients and staff – bringing some fun to the day and providing valuable opportunities for people to practice vital social skills.
